Review by Barry Gloffke
I'm writing this review on Monday after a riveting weekend of
following Bob and the Boys around New England. Providence, RI,
then Waterbury, CT, and lastly, Springfield, MA. I'll recap the
Providence show here, although most of you probably heard it
was another stellar show. Luckily I decided to leave NYC
early — about 1pm — which gave me about 3.5 hours to spare
before the 8pm curtain call. But I was still almost late arriving
because of a 3-hour delay on Route I-95 due to a road
malfunction in New London, CT. I got to the arena 10 minutes
before showtime with just barely enough time to grab a drink
and get to my seat. The arena was gorgeous! High-vaulted
ceilings and an astounding amount of gold and red art and
architecture. The sound was great, and the sight lines perfect.
The Friday night crowd was feisty and energized from the get-go.
There were many people standing/dancing who were confronted
and asked to sit causing a heck-of-a-lot of commotion. But the
show rocked, so who can blame anyone for standing/dancing. Bob
started a bit slow again although he warmed quickly. He also lost
his way once or twice lyrically — which makes what could have
been a great show into just another good one — but we tend to
forgive and forget his lapses. Bob is Bob. But I'm amazed at how
good he sounds and plays on this tour. And the drumming of J.P.
Penetcost brings these shows to life... even on the slow grooves.
FALSE PROPHET, BLACK RIDER and CROSSING THE RUBICON were
phenomenal and TO BE ALONE WITH YOU and GOODBYE JIMMY
REED rocked! We did not get a cover tonight but we did get a
superb harmonica solo by Bob. Thanks for another good one Bob.
It was well worth the stress I went through.
Good to see Kevin from Port Chester and Canadian Sue with her
daughter Chelsea. Nice!
Don't you miss it!
