Review by Mo Ritz
The long road, the winding turns, and the four winds blow a sweet sad old
song. The same kind of story that comes down from long ago. The wheel
turns, grains of sand, it feels like a dream. A smile relieves a heart
that grieves: The Outlaw Music Festival, lord the crowd seemed hypnotized
at the Lakeview Amphitheater on the shore of Onondaga Lake.
It's been a long time since I rock -n- rolled to Bob Dylan.
If my memory serves me right it was in the City at the Beacon Theater, the
McCartney's were in the lobby and we had just been to the show in Utica,
NY a little while before.
Tonight, a warm just right night. The show started promptly at 5:30 pm,
with Celisse. Hot Dam those guitar jams! I had to ask, "have we seen
her before?" IDK. My imagination dreams Celisse and Warren Haynes
tour! This tour any tour. Dreamer, nothin' but a dreamer.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, okay pinch me so I know I'm not
dreaming- OW. Angelic voice and a fiddle and then Mr. Plant slides in
some of the best rock-n-roll oldies and Zep is in the house! Bill
Withers' "Use Me" and "Gone, Gone, Gone", the crowd was dancing
on sunshine on a partly cloudy day!
Up next, Bob Dylan, stay up and dance! The set opened with a romp-in'
"Highway 61 Revisited", truly a crowd pleaser! The band has changed.
Happy to hear Tony G.'s bass, but where's Donnie? Who are the rest of
these players? Whoever they are they are on point.
Bob's piano was front and center and he sounded so good! Especially
enjoyed his harp and the virtuoso's (bob's word) On Simple Twist Of
Fate. Early Roman Kings was reworked to unrecognizable for me and
although it sounded good I much prefer the original version. My favorite
tonight was "Little Queenie", a real sizzler! Other stand outs were:
"Shooting Star" and "Can't Wait", and "Things have changed."
After 15 songs the set was over the band stopped and just walked off the
stage. There was no band introduction, they were just gone. I've missed
this music, thanks for the Soul shine.
Bringing the night to a close was the Nelson Family Band minus Willie.
Lucas and the band delivered a tight Texas groove. But we couldn't help
but to miss Willie.
Tonight was a heart stomping, bootie rockin', earth shaking, (3.8
earthquake for real) rock, rattle and rolling performance of the Outlaw
Music Festival!
Thank you again for the soul shine,
Mo
