The Hibbing Dylan Project
Bob Dylan Tribute

At a school board meeting on June 7, 2017, the Hibbing School Board approved of the concept and site location for the Hibbing Dylan Project's public work of art honoring Bob Dylan. The tribute to Bob Dylan will be constructed along the west side of the High School, on Bob Dylan Drive, and will feature a curved wall and empty chair sitting on a plaza shaped like a guitar pick. The street side of the wall will be made out of the same brick and stone used when the high school was built and will compliment the building's architecture. The opposite side will pay tribute to the creative body of work that spans Dylan's career. It will feature a large sheet of stainless steel inscribed with his poetry and lyrics. In the center of the plaza will sit an empty, bronzed, bentwood chair-a common site at HHS in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The chair will face the school. It's an open invitation for students to dream, wonder and to aspire to carry on the tradition that Dylan started in Hibbing. This tribute will also serve as a small open-air stage and amphitheater for students and teachers to utilize. The Hibbing Dylan's Project intention is to create an educational space that can be used for poetry readings, speeches, and musical performances from the choir and band. Now that they have the permission to build on school property, HDP will be looking for grant opportunities and donations to help with funding. To date, the group has raised over $10,000 through their fundraising events. Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to Hibbing Dylan Project, PO Box 61, Hibbing, Minnesota 55746 and checks can be made payable to HAC/Hibbing Dylan Project. To donate electronically via pay-pal or credit card, visit the group's website at hibbingdylanproject.org.
